CHASSIS  SHEET  METAL  11-4

NOTE: 

The  Hood  L ock   P la te   to  hood  fasten er  is 

also  an  im portant  attaching  part  in  that  it  could 
a ffect  the  p erform an ce  o f  v ita l  components  and 

system s,  and/or  could  resu lt  in  m ajor  re p a ir 

expense.  It  must  be  rep la ced   with  one  o f  the 
same  part  number  o r  with  an  equivalent p art  if 
replacem ent  becom es  n ecessa ry.  Do  not  use  a 

replacem en t  part  o f  le s s e r   quality  o r  substitute 

design.  Torqu e  valu es  must be  used as  sp ecified  
during  rea ssem b ly  to  assu re  p rop er  retention  o f 

this  part.

H O O D   ASSEMBLY

 

Removal

1.  L a y  a  fen d er  c o v e r  along  cow l  top  to  preven t  hood 

fro m   scratch in g  cow l  top.

2.  Open  hood  and prop  in fu ll  open position.

NOTE: 

If  hood  is  to  be  rein sta lled   and present 

alignm ent  is  sa tisfa ctory,  m ark  each  hinge  in 

relation   to  hood,  to  assure  o rig in a l  alignment.

3.  Rem ove  two  cap  screw s  which  attach  each  hinge  to 

hood;  then  with  a  h elper  rem o ve  hood  fro m   veh icle.

Installation

1.  If  o rig in a l  hood  is  to  be  installed,  position  hood to 

hinges  and  in sta ll  fou r  cap  screw s  snug which  attach 
hinges  to  hood.

NOTE: 

If  a  new  hood  is   to  be  in stalled,  p e r ­

fo rm   p rocedu res  as  outlined  under  Alignm ent, 

d ire c tly   below.

2.  Shift  hood  on  hinges  to  location  m arks  made  b efo re 

rem o va l  of  hood,  then  tighten  attaching  cap  screw s 

at  hinges  fir m ly .  C lose  hood  and  check  fit.  If  n eces­
s a ry   to  align  hood  p e rfo rm   procedu re  as  outlined 

under  ‘ 'A lig n m e n t"  which fo llo w s.

Alignm ent

1.  Loosen  hood  hinge  bolts.  Note  that  r e a r   m ost  bolt 

hole  in  hinge  is   slotted  to  allow   hood  tra ilin g   edge 

to  m ove  up  and  down.

2.  Adjust  hood  re a r   bumper  so  that  hood  and  cow l  su r­

fa ces  a re  flush.

3.  P e r fo r m   hood  lock  adjustment  as  outlined  in  this 

section if   n ecessary.

NOTE: 

Hood  Lock  A ssem b ly  to  be  adjusted 

fo r e   and  aft  until  nubbin  (p art  o f  Hood  L ock   Bolt 
Support  A ssem b ly )  enters  center  o f  elongated 

guide  (Socket).  Bending  nubbin  to  accom plish 

this  adjustment  may  s e rio u s ly   e ffe c t  lock  opera­
tion  and  safety  catch  engagem ent  and  is,  th ere­
fo r e ,  N O T   RECOM M ENDED.
