FRONT SUSPENSION 3-3

F ig . 2 — 1 Beam Suspension 40, 50 and 60 Series

expense.  It  must  be  rep laced   with  one  o f  the
same  part  number  o r  with  an  equivalent  part  if
replacem en t  becom es  n ecessa ry.  Do  not  use  a
replacem en t  p art  o f  le s s e r   quality  o r  substitute
design.  Torque  values  must  be  used  as  sp ecified

during rea ssem b ly to assure p ro p er retention of

this part.

3. Back o ff nut one fla t (1/6 turn) and in sert new cotter

pin. If nut and spindle hole do not line up, back o ff

sligh tly (1/6 turn) to align co tter pin. This adjust
ment p rovid es

fo r

.001" to .008" bearing end

clearan ce.

4. Spin hub to make sure it turns fr e e ly . Lock cotter

pin by spreading the end and bending it inboard to

avoid p o s s ib ility o f dam aging the static c o lle c to r in
the dust cap. Install dust cap, and wheel and tire
assem bly.

5. L o w e r veh icle on hoist.

2 0 -3 0 Series, I Beam 4 0 - 6 0 Series

(Except SE531, T50 and T 60)

1. F o llo w Step 1 as outlined fo r 10 S eries.

2. Tighten adjusting nut to 40 lb. ft. while rotating wheel

in both d irection s.

3. Back o ff nut 1/3 turn and in sta ll new co tter pin. If

spindle hole does not line up, tighten nut until a lig n

ment is obtained. This adjustment should resu lt in

b earin g end play o f .001" to .010".

4. Spin hub to make sure it turns fr e e ly . Lock cotter

pin  by  spreading  the  end  and  bending  it  around
spindle.  In stall  dust  cap  and  wheel  and  tire   a ssem
bly.  L o w e r  veh icle.

I B eam —Series (S59, T 50 and T60)

1. F ollow Step 1 as outlined fo r 10 S eries.

2. Tighten adjusting nut to 60 lb. ft. while rotating hub

in both d irection s.

3. Back o ff nut 1/3 turn and in stall new c o tter pin. If

spindle hole does not line up, tighten nut until a lig n

ment is obtained. This adjustment should resu lt in

bearin g end play to .001" to .010".

4. Spin drum to make sure it r o lls fr e e ly . Lock co tter

pin by spreading the end and bending it around spin

dle. Install hub plate o r cap, wheel and tir e a s s e m
bly, and lo w e r veh icle.

Steering Stop Screw — Adjust (I Beam O n ly )

Steering stop s c re w s should be p e rio d ic a lly checked

and adjusted to stop against the pads fo rg ed into the axle.

P r o p e r adjustment w ill p reven t ex cessive shock loads on

ste e rin g gear and also preven t steerin g w orm shaft and

nut fro m bottoming on housing end c o ver. P la c e each

fron t wheel on an alignm ent machine and adjust stop
s c re w s , as shown in F igu re 3 to the follow in g dim ensions:
