The C h evro let Truck S e rvice P a rts Identification P late
(fig . 2) is provid ed on a ll Truck m odels. On m ost s e rie s
it w ill be located on the inside o f the glove box door, or,
on F o rw a rd C ontrol s e r ie s , it w ill be located on an inner
body panel.
The plate lis ts the v e h icle s e r ia l number,
wheelbase, and a ll Production options o r Special Equip
ment on the veh icle when it was shipped fro m the fa cto ry

KEYS A N D LOCKS
Tw o keys a re p rovid ed with each veh icle. The keys
operate the ignition switch and door locks.
PUSHING, TO START VEHICLE
NOTE:
Towing to start is not recom m ended due
to the p o s s ib ility o f the disabled truck a c c e le r a t
ing into the towed veh icle.
Push Starts—Trucks Equipped w ith 3-S peed or
4-S peed Transmission
When a push sta rt is n ecessa ry turn o ff a ll e le c tr ic a l
loads such as heater, radio and, if p ossib le, lights, turn
on key, d ep ress the clutch, and place the shift le v e r in
3rd gea r. R elea se the clutch when your speed reaches
10 to 15 m ile s p er hour.
Push Starts—Trucks Equipped w ith
A utom atic Transmission
Do not attem pt to start the engine by pushing the truck.
Should the b attery becom e discharged, it w ill be n eces
s a ry to use an au xilia ry b attery with jum per cables to
sta rt the engine.

cess o f 12 vo lts and connect p o sitive to p ositive
and negative to negative.
T O W IN G
A ll Except Four W heel Drive Trucks
N o rm a lly your v e h icle may be towed with a ll four
w heels on the ground fo r distances up to 50 m iles at
speeds o f le s s than 35 M PH. The engine should be o ff
and the tran sm ission in neutral.
H ow ever, the r e a r w heels must be ra ised o ff the ground
o r the d riv e shaft disconnected when the tran sm ission is
not operating p ro p e rly o r when a speed o f 35 M PH o r d is
tance of 50 m iles w ill be exceeded.
CA UTIO N:
If a truck is towed on its front
w heels only, the s teerin g wheel must be secured
with the w heels in a straight ahead position.
Four W heel Drive Trucks
It is recom m ended that the truck be towed with the
fron t w heels o ff the ground. The truck can be towed,
how ever, with the r e a r w heels o ff the ground if there is
damage in the re a r wheel area. In this event, the tra n s
m ission s e le c to r le v e r should be p laced in the “ N ”
(neutral) position and the fron t d riv e disengaged. Towing
speeds should not exceed 35 M PH fo r distances up to 50
m ile s . If truck is towed on its front wheels, the steerin g
wheel should be secured to keep the fron t w heels in a
straight-ahead position.
When towing the veh icle at slow speeds (approx. 20
M P H ), fo r a v e r y short distance only, the transm ission
must be in N E U T R A L and the tra n sfer case M UST be in
“ TW O W H E E L H IG H .”
When towing the v e h icle at fa ster speeds fo r g re a te r
distances, the follow in g steps M UST be taken:
•
If fron t w heels a re on the road, disconnect the front
d rive shaft.
•
If r e a r w heels a re on the road, disconnect the re a r
d rive shaft.
Both 3 and 4 speed transm issions should be towed in
neutral only, with parking brakes fu lly relea sed .
When towing a v e h ic le on its front wheels only, the
ste e rin g wheel should be secured to maintain a straight
fo rw a rd position.
