Jacking  Instructions

T h e  chart  w ill  a ssist  in  p e rfo rm in g   wheel  and  tir e  

changes  using  v e h icle  jacks  supplied  with  o r  re c o m ­

mended fo r   use  on  C h evrolet  T ru ck s.

T IR E   IN F L A T IO N   T A B L E S   FOR 

H IG H W AY  SERVICE

T ir e   p re s s u re s   should  be  adjusted  to  the  load  being 

c a rrie d   by  the  tir e   as  shown  in  the  follow in g  charts. 

(F o r   s e v e re   s e r v ic e   and  heavy  duty  operation,  it  is  p e r ­

m issib le  to  in crea se  maximum  p ressu res  of  passen ger 

type  tir e s   shown  6  p si  with  no  in crea se  in  load  ca rry in g  

capacity.)

The  follow in g  notes  apply  to  the  adjacent  tables.

1.  T ir e   inflation  p ressu re  m ay  in crease  as  much  as  6 

pounds p e r  square  inch  (psi)  when  hot.

2.  F or  continuous  high  speed  operation  with p assen ger 

ca r  type  tir e s   (o v e r  75  mph)  in crease  tir e   inflation 

p ressu re  4  pounds  p e r  square  inch  o v e r  the  re c o m ­

mended  p re s s u re s   up  to  a  maximum  o f  32  pounds  p er 
square  inch  cold  fo r   load  range  B  tir e s ,  o r  40 

pounds  p e r  square  inch  cold  fo r  load  range  D  tir e s . 

Sustained  speeds  above  75  mph  a re   not  recom m ended 

when  the  4  pounds  p e r  square  inch  adjustment  would 

req u ire  p ressu re  g r e a te r   than  the  maximum  stated 

above.

3.  Cold  tir e   inflation  p ressu re:  a fte r  veh icle  has  been 

in operative  fo r  3  hours  o r  m ore,  o r  driven   le s s   than 

1  m ile .  Hot  tir e   inflation  pressu re:  a fte r  veh icle 

has  been  driven   10  m ile s   o r  m ore  at  60-70  m ile s   p er 
hour.

4.  Suburban  loads  should  be  distributed  as  fa r  fo rw a rd  

as  possib le.

5.  V e h ic le s   with  luggage  racks  do  not  have  a  veh icle 

load  lim it  g r e a te r   than  sp ecified .

6.  When  towing  tr a ile r s ,  the  allow able  p assen ger  and 

cargo  load  must be  reduced by  an  amount  equal  to  the 

tr a ile r   tongue  load  on  the  t r a ile r   hitch.

PASSENGER  CAR  TYPE  TIRES

The  optional  t ir e s   lis te d   in  the  adjacent  tables  a re   not 

n ecessa ry  fo r   norm al  requ irem en ts.  H ow ever,  an  extra 
m argin   o f  tir e   s e rv ic e   is  a va ila b le  when  these  options 
a re   used  at  loads  up  to  and  including  full  rated  load.  They 

a re   available  on  m odels  as  indicated  in  the  table.

On  some  m odels  space  lim itation s  do  not  p erm it  the 

use  o f  a  la r g e r   s iz e   tire ;  hence,  the  load  range  D  tir e   is 
a va ila b le.  In  eith er  case,  these  tir e s   a re   applicable  to 
t r a ile r   towing  o r  when  an  extra  m argin  o f tir e   s e rv ic e   is 
d esired . 

Use  o f  a  la r g e r   tir e   o r  a  load  range  D  tire  

should  not  be  construed  as  p erm ittin g  an  in crease  in  the 

fu ll  rated  veh icle  load  o v e r  that  sp ecified   in  the  tire  

inflation  p ressu re  table.

Only  those  t ir e s   o f the  s ize   shown  on  the  adjacent  table 

a re   recom m ended  fo r  use  on  your  veh icle.  Use  o f  any 
other  s iz e   o f  tir e   may  seriou sly  a ffect  rid e,  handling, 

g r o u n d   clearan ce,  tir e   clea ra n ces,  and  speedom eter 
calib ration .  T o   achieve  best  a ll  around  veh icle  handling 

p erfo rm a n ce,  fib e rg la s s   belted  tir e s ,  radial  ply  tire s , 
and  bias  ply  tir e s   should  not  be  m ixed  on  the  same  truck.

NOTE 

: 

On  fou r-w h eel  d riv e   v eh icles  a ll  tir e s  

must  be  o f  equal  s ize   and ply  rating  and  o f  same 

tread  configuration.
