ENGINE  6-36

FRONT  (4 0 -6 0   SERIES)

F ig .  2 1 V —E ngine  M ounts

5.  Com plete  cam shaft  rem o va l  as  follow s:

NOTE: 

Sprocket  is   a  light  fit  on  camshaft.

If  sprocket  does  not  com e  o ff  e a sily   a  light  blow 
on  the  lo w e r  edge  o f the  sprocket  (with  a  plastic 
m a llet)  should  dislodge  the  sprocket.

6.  Install  two  5/16”   x  18  x  4 "  bolts  in  cam shaft bolt 

holes  then  rem ove  cam shaft  (fig.  19V).

C A UTIO N: 

A ll  cam shaft  journals  a re  the  same 

dia m eter  and  ca re  must  be  used  in  rem ovin g 

cam shaft  to  avoid  dam age  to  bearin gs.

Installation

NOTE: 

W henever  a  new  camshaft  is   installed 

coat  cam shaft  lobes  with  “ M olykote”   o r  its 

equivalent.

10  Lu bricate  cam shaft  journals  with  engine  o il  and  in­

stall  camshaft.

2.  Install  tim ing  chain  on  cam shaft  sprocket.  Hold  the 

sprocket  v e r tic a l  with  the  chain  hanging  down,  and 

align   m arks  on  cam shaft  and  crankshaft  sprockets. 

(R e fe r  to  fig .  13V  and  17V).

3.  A lig n   dowel  in  cam shaft  with  dowel  in  hole  in  cam ­

shaft  sprocket  then  install  sprocket  on  camshaft.

4 .

  D raw   the  cam shaft  sprocket  onto  cam shaft  using  the 

mounting  bolts.  Torqu e  to  sp ecification s.

5.  Lu bricate  tim in g  chain  with  engine  o il.

6.  Install  fuel  pump  push  rod  as  outlined  in  Section  6M.

7 „ 

Install  g r ille   as  outlined  in  Section  13.

8.  Install  crankcase  front  co v e r  as  outlined.

9.  Install  va lve  lift e r s   as  outlined.

Flywheel

Removal

W ith  tran sm ission   and/or  clutch  housing  and  clutch 

rem oved   from   engine,  rem o ve  the  flyw h eel.

Installation

1.  Clean  the  mating  su rfaces  o f  flyw h eel  and  crankshaft 

to  make  certain  there  a re   no  b u rrs.

2.  Install  flyw heel  on  crankshaft  and  position  to  align 

dowel 

hole 

o f 

crankshaft 

flange 

a n d  

flyw heel 

(fig .  20V).

NOTE: 

On  Autom atic  T ra n sm ission   equipped 

engines,  the  flyw h eel  must  be  in stalled  with the 
flange  c o lla r  to  tran sm ission   side  (fig .  20V).

Coat  thread  end  o f  bolts  with  se a le r  then  in stall  bolts 

and  torque  to  specification s.

Engine  Mounts

Engine  mounts  (fig .  21V)  a re  the  non-adjustable  type 

and  seldom   req u ire  s e r v ic e .  Broken  o r  d eteriora ted  

mounts  should  be  replaced  im m ediately,  because  o f  the 

added  strain  placed  on  other  mounts  and  d riv e   line 

components.

Front  M ount  Replacement

 

W ith  Small  V 8   Engines

1.  R em ove  distribu tor  cap.

2o  R em ove  mount  retaining  bolt  fro m   below   fram e 

mounting bracket.

3.  R aise  front  of  engine  and  rem ove  m ount-to-engine 

bolts  and  rem ove  mount.

CA UTIO N: 

R aise  engine  only  enough  fo r  suf­

ficien t  clearan ce.  Check  fo r  in terferen ce  b e­
tween  re a r   o f  engine  and  cowl  panel.

4.  Replace  mount  to  engine  and  lo w er  engine  into  place.

5.  Install 

retaining  bolt 

and 

torque

bolts 

to 

specification s.

W ith  M ark  IV  V 8  Engine

1.  R em ove  cotter  keys  then  loosen  fron t  mount  bolt.

2.  R aise  engine  enough  to  rem ove  weight  fro m   cushions.
3.  R em ove  nut,  bolt,  spacer  and  cushions  and  rein sta ll 

with  new  cushions.

4.  L o w e r  engine  and  torque  bolt  to  sp ecification s.

5.  Install  cotter  key.

Rear  M ount  Replacem ent

1.  Support  engine  weight  to  r e lie v e   re a r   mounts.

2.  R em ove  mount  attaching  bolts  fro m   fra m e  o u trigger 

and 

clutch 

housing 

and 

rem ove  re a r  mounting 

cushions.

3.  Install  new  mounting  cushions  and bolts.

4.  L o w e r  engine  onto  mounts.

5.  Torqu e  bolts  to  sp ecification s  then  bend  lock  tabs 

to  bolt  head.
