I-BEAM FRONT SUSPENSION
Lu bricate front suspension king pins, tie rod
ends, etc. e v e ry 1000 m ile s .
Check spring U bolts, king pins, steerin g tie rods and
steerin g a rm s fo r alignm ent and tightness.
L u b ricate steerin g arm , king pins, and tie rods at
fittin gs with w ater resista n t E P ch assis g rea se which
m eets G en eral M otors Specification #GM 6031M e v e ry
6,000 m iles.
REAR SUSPENSION
K eep spring to axle U bolts and shackle bolts p ro p e rly
tightened. Check U bolt nuts a fte r the fir s t 1,000 m iles
o f operation i f the U bolt o r U bolt nuts a re changed in
s e rv ic e .

TA ND EM REAR SUSPENSION
A fte r the fir s t 500 m ile s o f operation torque rod ball
stud nuts should be retorqu ed to 275-300 ft. lbs. The
spring saddle cap stud nuts should be retorqued to 275-
300 ft. lbs. The tandem axle spring hangers must be
lu bricated on four cam su rfaces and two spring pin f it
tings with w ater resistant E P chassis g re a s e which m eets
G eneral M otors S pecification #GM 6031M e v e ry 6,000
m ile s .
SPEEDOMETER ADAPTER
On ve h ic le s so equipped, lu bricate adapter at fitting
with w ater resistan t E P chassis g rea se which m eets
G en eral M otors Specification #GM 6031M e v e ry 6,000
m ile s .

Lu bricate d riv e cable with SAE 90 m ulti-purpose gea r

BODY LUBRICATION
N orm al use o f a truck causes m eta l-to -m e ta l m o ve
ment at certain points in the cab body. N oise, w ear and
im p ro p er operation at these points w ill result when a
p ro tective film o f lubricant is not provided.
F or exposed su rfaces, such as door checks, door lock
bolts, lock s trik e r plates, dovetail bumper w edges, etc.,
apply a thin film o f light engine o il.
W here o il holes a re provided in body p arts a d rip less
o il can be safely used, but any lubricant should be used
sparin gly, and a fte r application a ll e x cess should be
c a refu lly wiped off.
The seat adju sters and seat track, ord in a rily o v e r
looked, should be lubricated with w ater resistan t E P
ch assis g rea se which m eets G eneral M otors S p ecifica
tion #GM 6031M.
T h e re a re other points on bodies which may o cca s
ionally req u ire lubrication and which a re d ifficu lt to
s e r v ic e . Window regu la tors and con trols are confined
in the space between the upholstery and the outside door
panel. Easy access to the working parts may be made by
rem ovin g the trim . D oor w eath erstrip s and rubber hood
bum pers should be ligh tly coated with a rubber lubricant.
CLEANING TRUCKS
Exterior
Frequent washing and a thorough cleaning a fter expo
sure a re recom m ended to p reven t damage to veh icle
finish from calcium ch loride and other salts, road tar,
insects, tre e sap, fa cto ry ch em icals and other foreign
m atter.
Use eith er cold o r lukewarm w ater. N e v e r
wash veh icle in the d irect ra ys o f the sun and always
w ait until painted su rfaces have cooled.
Interior
A damp cloth w ill wipe dust fro m hard su rfaces.
R em ove upholstery stains as soon as possible b efore
