NOTE: If a seal cannot be effected in the fo r e ­
going manner with the rush of a ir, it can be a c ­
com plished by applying a mounting band o r heavy
sash cord to the circu m feren ce of the t ir e and
then tightening with a t ir e iron.
RHP RIMS REPLACEMENT
The RH P rim uses a continuous side ring which has
two cutouts d ire c tly opposite each other and a sin gle tool
notch located approxim ately 45 d e g re e s fro m one cutout,
(fig . 27). Th e cutouts enable the continuous side rin g to
be buttoned on to the rim base without deform ing eith er
the rin g o r rim .
Rem oval (Figure 2 8 )
1. T o d isassem b le the ring, make sure the tire is en­
tir e ly deflated and both beads a re broken fr e e . The
side rin g is ready to demount if it is loose and turns
e a sily in the rim gutter.
2. Locate the tool notch in the side ring and in sert the
rim tool o r a long, husky s c r e w d r iv e r and p ry up,
making sure the opposite side of the ring is fittin g
into the rim gutter. Do not bend the ring.
3. Now a second tool can be in serted and used with the
fir s t to walk the tools in a cou n terclockw ise d irection
fro m the tool notch (work tow ard the cutout that is
fa rth est fro m the tool notch).
4. When the tools reach the cutout the ring w ill usually
spring o ff. If n ecessa ry, a light tap with the m allet
w ill fr e e the last half of the ring a fter it has been
p rie d up so both cutouts a re v is ib le .

Assem bly
1. T o assem ble the p arts, start the side rin g half op ­
posite the tool notch into the rim gutter making sure
the flat rin g su rface is facin g the tir e .

Push until the rin g is half on and the crescen t shaped
cutouts straddle the rim gutter p er illu stration (fig .
2 9 ).
3. Insert rim tool o r la r g e s c re w d riv e r in the tool notch
and pull the rin g on and down toward the rim gutter.
4. W hile pulling on the rim tool o r screw d r iv e r , hit the
side rin g a sharp blow with a m allet in the area b e ­
tween the tool notch and the n earest cutout. The
second half of the rin g w ill now be started o v e r the
rim gutter.
5. R em ove the rim tool and continue the m allet blows
starting at the tool notch and p ro g re s s cou n terclock ­
w ise until the entire rin g is in the rim gutter.
6. Check to make sure the side ring is p ro p e rly a s ­
sem bled b efo re inflating the t ir e . The ring w ill turn
easily on the rim base a fte r it is fu lly assem bled.
