Locating and Correcting Cable Disconnections
Section 10-4
10-4-4 Clearing the Ring Status Words
When a disconnection has been detected, the disconnected node information
in the ring status words is retained even if the disconnection has been cor-
rected. The data is retained to provide a record of the disconnection if the
connection is just unstable and has been restored automatically. (The discon-
nected node information will be overwritten if another error is detected later.)
The ring status information is recorded independently in each node, so one of
the following methods must be used to clear the ring status words.
• Clear the ring status words with the support software (Controller Link
Support Software Ver. 2.00 or higher.) The support software operation
clears the ring status information in all of the nodes.
• Send the NETWORK DISCONNECT DATA CLEAR command (FINS com-
mand 06 06) from the ladder program or other source. The command
must be sent to all of the nodes.
Note If the power supplies (including backup power supplies) to the nodes are not
turned ON simultaneously, the temporary disconnection will be detected as
the network starts up. When the network is started in token-ring mode, verify
that the disconnection has been corrected automatically by checking the ring
status words or the status of the RING LED indicators and then clear the ring
status words.
The following example shows how to clear the ring status words by sending
FINS command 06 06 from the ladder program. In this example, the Controller
Link Unit’s unit number is 0 and no other Communications Units are mounted
in the local node.
