7. Add some clean fuel to tank to fl ush out any
remaining contaminants.
8. Reattach fuel supply hose (A) to fi tting. Install
clamp (B) and tighten.
NOTE:
Do
NOT
re fi ll the fuel tank if performing additional
maintenance on fuel system. Re fi ll it once work
is completed. Refer to
Filling the Fuel Tank,
page 163

Fuel/Water Separator
A fuel water separator is incorporated into the primary fuel fi lter. The separator is equipped with a drain and with a
sensor that detects water in the fuel and alerts the Operator on the cab display module (CDM). Drain the water and
sediment from the separator daily or at any time the CDM Water In Fuel (WIF) light illuminates.

Removing Water from Fuel System
Drain the water and sediment as follows from the separator daily, or at any time the cab display module (CDM)
water in fuel (WIF) light illuminates.
DANGER
To avoid bodily injury or death from unexpected startup of the machine, always stop the engine and remove
the key from the ignition before leaving the operator’s seat for any reason.
1. Stop the engine and remove the key.
2. Open the hood. Refer to
5.2.1 Opening Hood (Lower Position), page 306
.
3. Place a container under the fi lter (A) to catch spilled fl uid.
4. Turn drain valve (B) by hand 1-1/2 to 2 turns
counterclockwise until draining occurs.
5. Drain the fi lter sump of water and sediment until clear
fuel is visible.
6. Turn the valve clockwise to close the drain.
7. Dispose of fl uid safely.
