The ‘range’ command consolidates and summarizes routes at an area boundary.
Route summarization is the consolidation of advertised addresses.
If the network numbers in an area are assigned in a way such that they are
contiguous, you can configure the ABR to advertise a summary route that covers
all the individual networks within the area that fall into the specified range. To
specify an address range, enter the following command:

Note: The area ‘0’ cannot be configured as a stub as it forms the backbone of the network.

Specifies an address range for
which a single route will be
advertised.
If ‘ not advertise’ keyword is
used, the Type 3 summary LSA is
suppressed, and the networks
remain hidden from other
networks.

subnet-mask|<ip-address/prefix-
length> }[ not-advertise ]
Removes an address range for
which a single route is to be
advertised.
Command (in RCM) Description
area { <0-4294967295>|<ip-
address> } stub [ no-summary ]
Defines an area to be a stub area.
If ‘ no-summary ’ keyword is used, then
ABR does not send summary link
advertisements into the stub area.
no area { <0-4294967295>|<ip-
address> } stub [ no-summary ]
The ‘no’ command sets area to default.
