Reinigung und Wartung II
Cleaning and Maintenance II
Cleaning and maintenance
Stainless steel is protected against corrosion by a thin transparent passive layer on its surface.
Therefore, additional coating with varnish or metal is normally not required. In order to keep
the surfaces of your collecting hoods or extraction ceiling in a good condition and preserve the
appealing look of stainless steel, a certain degree of care and maintenance is recommended.
Prior to commissioning
collecting hoods or extractor ceilings made of stainless steel, you should
clean the surfaces thoroughly and remove all dirt and remnants of the protective film.
ATTENTION:
Some protective films are not resistant to light or UV-rays in the long-term and their removal might
become quite difficult with time. Therefore, you should pull off the film as soon as possible after
the assembly, but at the latest when no more contamination by construction or assembly works has
to be expected. You should pull off the film from the top to the bottom and remove glue remnants
meticulously, because they could cause corrosion otherwise. Use a suitable organic solvent or
solvent-based cleaner to remove colour stains. Scrap off lime and cement spatter with a rubber
scraper or a wood shaving, if possible before they harden
.
➜
Never use tools made of standard
steel (scrapers, steel wool) because they can cause foreign corrosion.
You can remove lime or
cement spatter also with thinned phosphoric acid.
➜
After cleaning, always rinse the surface with plenty of fresh water.
By using de-mineralised
water, you can avoid lime stains.
➜
Never apply hydrochloric acid - not even as a weak solution –
to stainless steel surfaces!
ATTENTION:
Iron particles, grinding dust and chips released during metal works in the proximity of your extraction
equipment will rust very quickly on the stainless steel surfaces. These kinds of deposits can damage
the protective passive layer and produce corrosive spots.
➜
If you detect these contaminations
early enough, you can easily remove them with a household sponge (free of ferrite) and water
or with a special cleaner.
