Explanation
Accessibility
The machine is designed featuring good accessibility even for the elderly and those who are physically
challenged or visually impaired. Touch panel is adjustable in two angles.
Apple Talk
AppleTalk offers file sharing and printer sharing and it also enables you to utilize application software
that is on another computer on the same AppleTalk network.
Auto Form Feed
Timeout
During data transmission, the machine may sometimes have to wait until receiving the next data. This
is the auto form feed timeout. When the preset timeout passes, the machine automatically prints
output. However, no output is performed if the last page has no data to be printed.
Auto Paper Selection
A function to automatically select paper in the same size as originals when printing.
Auto Sleep
A mode designed for electrical power saving, activated when the machine is left unused or there is no
data transfer for a specific period. In Sleep mode, power consumption is kept to a minimum.
Auto-IP
Auto-IP is a module that enables dynamic IPv4 addresses to be assigned to a device on startup.
However, DHCP requires a DHCP server. Auto-IP is a server-less method of choosing an IP address.
IP addresses between 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.255 are reserved for Auto-IP and assigned
automatically.
Bonjour
Bonjour, also known as zero-configuration networking, is a service that automatically detects
computers, devices and services on an IP network. Bonjour, because an industry-standard IP protocol
is used, allows devices to automatically recognize each other without an IP address being specified or
DNS server being set. Bonjour also sends and receives network packets by UDP port 5353. If a
firewall is enabled, the user must check that UDP port 5353 is left open so that Bonjour will run
correctly. Some firewalls are set up so as to reject only certain Bonjour packets. If Bonjour does not
run stably, check the firewall settings and ensure that Bonjour is registered on the exceptions list and
that Bonjour packets are accepted. If you install Bonjour on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, the
Windows firewall will be set up correctly for Bonjour.
Custom Box
The Custom Box function stores print data for each individual user on the printer and allows the user to
print single or multiple copies of the stored data later using the printer's operation panel.
Default Gateway
This indicates the device, such as a computer or router, that serves as the entrance/exit (gateway) for
accessing computers outside the network that you are on. When no specific gateway is designated for
a destination IP address, data is sent to the host designated as the Default Gateway.
DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol)
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) that automatically resolves IP addresses, subnet
masks, and gateway addresses on a TCP/IP network. DHCP minimizes the load of network
management employing a large number of client computers because it relieves individual clients
including printers from the IP address being assigned.
DHCP (IPv6)
DHCP (IPv6) is the next-generation of the Internet's Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and
supports IPv6. It extends the BOOTP startup protocol that defines the protocols used for transferring
configuration information to hosts on the network. DHCP (IPv6) permits the DHCP server to use its
expanded functionality to send configuration parameters to an IPv6 node. Because the network
addresses that can be used are allocated automatically, the IPv6 node management workload is
reduced in systems where the administrator has to exercise close control over IP address allocation.
dpi (dots per inch)
A unit for resolution, representing the number of dots printed per inch (25.4 mm).
EcoPrint Mode
A printing mode that helps save toner. Copies made in this mode are thus lighter than normal.
Emulation
The function to interpret and execute other printers' page description languages. The machine
emulates operation of PCL6, KPDL3 (PostScript 3 compatible).
Enhanced WSD
Kyocera's proprietary web services.
FTP (File Transfer
Protocol)
A protocol to transfer files on the TCP/IP network, whether the Internet or an intranet. Along with HTTP
and SMTP/POP, FTP is now frequently used on the Internet.
