Stacking Commands
This chapter describes commands for managing switch stacking. The commands include:

Enabling or disabling stacking.
•
Configuring stacking priority.
•
Saving stacking configurations.
•
Determining if stacking is enabled or disabled.
•
Configuring or unconfiguring stacking for fall back IP addresses.
•
Configuring a request for a slot number.
•
Binding a slot to a MAC address.
•
Showing stack and slot configurations
The following commands are also related to stacking, but are located in other chapters in this manual:

NOTE
When stacking is enabled, the above commands support the stacking slot number. Otherwise, the slot
number is not recognized in the commands.
Introducing Stacking
Stacking
allows users to physically connect up to eight individual Summit switches together as a single
logical unit. This logical unit behaves as a single switch with a single IP address and a single point of
authentication.
In ExtremeWare, a stack is controlled by a master switch, called the
stack manager
. The stack manager
runs full ExtremeWare and is responsible for maintaining all of the software tables for all the switches in
the stack. There can only be one stack manager in a stack of switches. The remaining switches in the
