6. Place a flatblade screwdriver under the adjusting arm (1) and raise the arm off of the adjusting wheel (2). While
holding the arm (1) up, turn the wheel (2) upward until it stops
(Figure 6-16, Page 6-8) . Arm must engage teeth
of the wheel. Remove the screwdriver.

7. For electric vehicles: Install the axle shaft. See Axle Shaft and Oil Seal Installation, Section 17, Page 17-4.
For gasoline vehicles: Install the wheel hub assembly. See Rear Hub Installation, Section 24, Page 24-4.
8. Install the brake drum, and make sure that it is properly seated. See following NOTE.
NOTE: If drum installation is difficult, the brake shoes may need to be adjusted vertically in the mounting slots.
9. After the drum is installed, make sure the axle and drum turn freely and then install the wheel. See Wheel
Installation on page 8-1.
10. Connect the battery cables. See Connect the Batteries – Electric Vehicles, Section 1, Page 1-5.
