While in drawing mode, the control occupies the entire screen. New lines or points may
therefore be drawn anywhere on the page. Start and end points of lines or line segments are
indicated by small squares, to make it easier to find and operate on these control points.
When leaving drawing mode, the control will be resized to the smallest possible outline
around the drawing.
The following simple operations are currently supported in drawing mode:
Add new lines (line drawing):
To add one or more lines, left-click at the desired
start position of the line. Release the left button and drag the line to the desired end
point. To restrict the angle of the new line to multiples of 45 degrees, hold down
the
shift
key. Left-click at the desired line endpoint to finish the current line and
start a new line at the same point. Move to the next endpoint and repeat. If no
further line segments are needed, right-click anywhere to cancel the current
unfinished segment.
Add new points (polygon drawing):
To add a new point to a polygon, left-click at
the desired position of the point. The new point will be inserted between the last
and the first point of the drawing and the lines will be drawn according to the new
shape. To add more points, repeat the process as needed. Press the right mouse
button to end point insertion mode. See also the operation ‘
Insert points’
below.
Move points:
Start and end points of a line drawing and points of a polygon
drawing may be moved after they were drawn. Move the mouse near the point to
move. The cursor changes shape to indicate that a moveable point was detected.
Now press
and hold
the left mouse button while dragging the point to its new
location. Holding down the
shift
key while dragging the point will apply angle
locking similar to adding new points. Release the mouse button when done.
Remove lines (line drawing):
Lines may be removed from the drawing by a right-
click anywhere on the line.
Remove points (polygon drawing):
Points may be removed from the polygon by a
right-click on the desired point.
Append to an existing line (line drawing):
To start a new line segment at the start
or end point of an already existing line, hold down the shift key while doing the
left click. This will cancel point move mode, which is normally active near an
existing line endpoint. Once the starting point was set, release the shift key, unless
you want to use the 45 degree angle locking.
Insert points (polygon drawing):
New points can be inserted along a line between
two existing points of a polygon by pressing and holding the left mouse button on
the line to which a new point should be added. The new point is inserted and can
be moved to the desired position immediately by dragging with the mouse and
releasing the left mouse button when done. See also ‘
Move points’
above.
End drawing mode:
To exit drawing mode, right-click anywhere on the page,
except over a line or a point (see the remove functions above), or press the
Esc
key. The control will leave drawing mode and be resized to the smallest possible
outline. It can now be treated like any other control and can be moved to its final
location on the page.
9.5.12 Analog Meter
The analog meter control displays a numeric value by a needle moving over a scale, similar
to the way a traditional moving-coil ammeter works.
