Using [Background Suppression]
Background Suppression technology detects the background level of originals
that consist of text and lines. When a dark background is selected as the
[Document Image Type], image loss may occur when copying a normal-to-light
density document.
Background may not be suppressed in the following cases. Use manual
adjustment instead.
• The document background is extremely dark.
• The document is torn or contains holes.
Use manual adjustment when the following are observed.
• The lead edge of the copy becomes blurred.
• Image loss occurs.
• The background is not completely suppressed.
[Auto] adjustment of [Background Suppression] cannot be used when
[Picture] or [Photo] is selected as the [Document Image Type].
Use manual adjustment for the following.
• Complex color documents or photos and posters.
• Documents with light colored horizontal line(s) or light color strings of text.
Line/text length: Half of the document width.
Line/text width: 1mm or more (excluding cases where the line/text density
is dark)
• The document has a low-density frame.
The low-density edge may be detected as the background. As a
consequence, the edges and ambient images are erased, or the
background is not suppressed.
• High line density documents such as maps. These documents may have
more lines than background. The high density area may be detected as the
background to be suppressed.
Although this function also can be performed using the Background Suppression keys
on the copier control panel, the menu screen provides significantly more adjustment
steps.
