Background Suppression
Background suppression subdues or removes unwanted detail (noise,
background) from copies. The larger the value specified, the more the
background is suppressed; the smaller the value specified, the less the
background is suppressed.

Enables the suppression level to be selected from seven settings
between [Minimum] and [Maximum].

Adjustment
Enables the suppression level to be selected from thirty-nine
settings between [Minimum] and [Maximum]. This method allows
for fine adjustments to be made when the difference between the
document's image area and the background is small.
The background level is sometimes difficult to detect automatically. For more
information, refer to the next section, "Using [Background Suppression]."
