Safety
Occupant safety
The purpose of sidebag deployment is to
enhance the level of protection for the tho-
rax (but not the head, neck or arms) of the
vehicle occupants on the side of the vehi-
cle on which the impact occurs.
The sidebags are located in the outer sides
of the front seats and on the outsides of
the rear compartment next to the seats.
You can recognise the places where side-
bags are fitted in your vehicle by the
AIRBAG symbol.

Front sidebag
2
Rear sidebag
The sidebag deploys next to the backrest
side cushions.
Sidebags
1
and
2
are deployed:
앫
on the side on which an impact occurs
앫
at the start of an accident with a high
rate of lateral vehicle deceleration or
acceleration, e.g. in a side impact
앫
independently of the front airbags
앫
independently of the belt tensioners
앫
Sidebags are not deployed if the vehi-
cle overturns, unless the system de-
tects high vehicle deceleration in a
lateral direction.
i
In the event of an impact to the front-pas-
senger side, the front-passenger sidebag is only
deployed if the front-passenger seat occupancy
recognition system detects that the seat is occu-
pied or if the seat belt is engaged in the buckle.
i
You can find further information about how
the airbags work on (
컄
page 38).
You can find further information about belt ten-
sioners and belt force limiters on (
컄
page 35).
Windowbags
The purpose of the windowbags is to en-
hance the level of protection for the head
(but not chest or arms) of the vehicle occu-
pants on the side of the vehicle on which
the impact occurs. The windowbags are in-
tegrated into the side of the roof frame and
deploy in the area from the front door
(A-pillar) to the rear door (C-pillar).

G
Risk of injury
In order for the windowbag to provide its in-
tended level of protection, make sure that
there are no objects between the vehicle oc-
cupants and the deployment range of the
windowbags.
G
Risk of injury
Observe the following notes to reduce the
risk of serious or fatal injury if the window-
bag is deployed:
앫
Vehicle occupants – in particular, chil-
dren – must not lean their head on the
area of the window in which the window-
bag is deployed.
앫
Vehicle occupants must always have
their seat belts fastened correctly.
앫
Always secure children less than 1.50 m
tall or under 12 years of age in suitable
child restraint systems.
