Occupant safety
Your vehicle is equipped with the following
airbags:
앫
Driver’s front airbag, located in the
steering wheel
앫
Front-passenger front airbag above the
glove compartment
앫
Sidebags on the outer side of the front
seats
앫
Sidebags near the outer sides of the
seats in the rear compartment
앫
Windowbags in the edge of the roof
frame
Airbag deployment
The airbags inflate within milliseconds. The
=
warning lamp comes on.
i
If the airbags are deployed, you will hear a
bang and a small amount of powder may also be
released. The bang is not harmful to your hearing
and the powder is not hazardous to your health.
Airbag deployment slows down and re-
stricts the movement of the vehicle occu-
pant.
When the vehicle occupant makes contact
with the front and side airbags, hot gas
flows out of the airbags. This reduces the
force acting on the occupant’s head and
chest. The airbags are thus deflated after
the accident.
앫
Move the front-passenger seat as far
back as possible, especially if a child is
sitting on this seat or if a child is secured
in a restraint system on this seat.
앫
Rearward-facing child restraint systems
must not be fitted to the front-passen-
ger seat unless the front-passenger
front airbag has been disabled. The
front-passenger front airbag is automat-
ically disabled in Mercedes-Benz vehi-
cles if a child restraint system with
automatic child seat recognition is fitted
to the front-passenger seat of a vehicle
equipped with automatic child seat rec-
ognition and the
9
warning
lamp is lit.
앫
If you fit a forward-facing child restraint
system to the front-passenger seat, you
must move the front-passenger seat as
far back as possible. Even with the seat
in this position, the belt must be routed
forwards in the direction of travel and
pulled tight.
앫
Do not lean forwards, e.g. over the pad-
ded boss of the steering wheel, particu-
larly when the vehicle is in motion.
앫
Do not put your feet on the dashboard.
앫
Only hold the steering wheel by the rim.
This allows the airbag to deploy fully.
You could be injured if the airbag is de-
ployed and you are holding the inside of
the steering wheel.
앫
Do not lean on the doors from inside the
vehicle.
앫
Do not place any objects on the airbags
or between the airbags and the vehicle’s
occupants.
앫
Do not place any objects between the
seat backrests and the doors.
앫
Do not hang any hard objects, e.g. coat
hangers, on the grab handles or coat
hooks.
It is not possible to rule out the risk of inju-
ries caused by an airbag due to the high
speed with which the airbag is required to
deploy.
