Driving safety systems
BAS operates in emergency braking situa-
tions. If you depress the brake pedal quick-
ly, BAS automatically boosts the braking
force and thus shortens the stopping dis-
tance.
왘
Keep the brake pedal depressed firmly
until the emergency braking situation is
over.
ABS prevents the wheels from locking.
The brakes will function as usual once you
release the brake pedal. BAS is deactivat-
ed.
BAS Plus intervenes in emergency braking
situations and uses radar sensor technolo-
gy to assess the traffic situation.
If the driver depresses the brake pedal rap-
idly in an emergency braking situation,
BAS Plus automatically adjusts the brake
pressure to a level suitable for the traffic
situation.
PRE-SAFE
®
is activated simultaneously if
BAS Plus requests a particularly high brak-
ing pressure.
왘
Keep the brake pedal depressed until
the emergency situation is over.
ABS prevents the wheels from locking.
The brakes will function as usual again
once you release the brake pedal or if
there is no longer a risk of a frontal colli-
sion. BAS Plus is deactivated.
When braking, the brake lamps flash rapid-
ly to warn following traffic if:
앫
you brake heavily from a speed of more
than 50 km/h
앫
BAS or BAS Plus* intervene to support
your braking manoeuvre
The hazard warning lamps switch on auto-
matically if the vehicle is braked to halt
from a speed of more than 70 km/h in this
way. The brake lamps then stay lit con-
stantly while the vehicle is stationary. The
hazard warning lamps switch off again
when you exceed a speed of 10 km/h.
ESP
®
monitors the driving stability and the
traction, i.e. transfer of power from the
tyres to the road surface.
ESP
®
detects when a wheel spins or the ve-
hicle enters a skid. ESP
®
stabilises the ve-
hicle by braking individual wheels, limiting
the engine power output, and assists you
when pulling away on a wet or slippery
road surface. ESP
®
also stabilises the vehi-
cle when braking.
When ESP
®
intervenes, the
v
warning
lamp flashes in the instrument cluster.
BAS
G
Risk of accident
If BAS is faulty, the braking system remains
available with full brake boosting effect.
However, braking force is not automatically
increased in emergency braking situations
and the stopping distance may increase.
