Technical terms
Bluetooth*
Standard for short-range wireless tech-
nologies, suitable for the transfer of
speech and data. Bluetooth devices
can be linked without cables.
Bluetooth technology uses the unli-
censed ISM (Industrial Scientific
Medical) band, which operates at a fre-
quency of 2.45 GHz. Bluetooth has a
range of up to ten metres.
C-pillar
The C-pillar is the rear pillar joining the
roof to the body (->A-pillar, ->B-pillar).
CAN system
(Controller Area Network)
Uses vehicle or environmental factors
to control certain functions of your ve-
hicle, such as locking doors or the
windscreen wipers, and transmits them
to the ->instrument cluster operating
system. All the electronic systems in
the vehicle are connected to allow this
system to work.
Centring pin
Metal pin with thread. An aid used
when changing a tyre to align the wheel
precisely with the wheel hub.
COMAND
(Cockpit Management and Data Sys-
tem)
Information and operating centre for
various vehicle functions, for example
the radio, CD player and other optional
equipment such as the telephone*,
navigation system*.
Distronic*/Distronic Plus*
System which helps the driver keep to
a preselected speed on motorways and
major roads:

If there is no vehicle in front, the
system operates in the same way
as cruise control.

If a vehicle is detected ahead, the
system automatically adjusts the
speed so that your vehicle always
maintains the minimum distance
set.
e-mark
Mark for certification in accordance
with current EU Directives.
EBV
(electronic braking-force distribution)
Ensures optimum distribution of brak-
ing force between the front and rear ax-
les.
ELCODE
(Electronic Code System)
System which electronically checks
whether a person entering or driving
the vehicle is entitled to do so, and
which forms part of the anti-theft sys-
tem of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
EMC
(Electromagnetic Compatibility)
The electrical and electronic compo-
nents of the vehicle are shielded
against interference fields, e.g. trans-
mitters, radar systems, power lines and
radiophones.

European standard for unleaded petrol.
Engine oil viscosity
Measure of the internal oil friction (vis-
cosity) at different temperatures. The
higher the temperature the oil can tol-
erate without thinning too much, or the
lower the temperature it can tolerate
without thickening too much, the bet-
ter the viscosity.
ESP
®
(Electronic Stability Program)
Improves driving stability and ->trac-
tion when cornering and in critical situ-
ations, e.g. if there is a risk of skidding.
