Automatic air conditioning
The automatic air conditioning is only oper-
ational when the engine is running. Opti-
mum operation is only achieved when you
are driving with the windows and sliding/
tilting sunroof* closed.
It is possible to switch off the automatic air
conditioning completely if necessary
(
컄
page 345).
In automatic mode, the automatic air con-
ditioning cools or heats the vehicle interior
depending on the:
앫
selected temperature
앫
outside temperature
앫
sunlight
The integrated combination filter largely fil-
ters out particles of dust and completely
filters out pollen.
i
The interval for replacing the filter depends
on environmental influences such as heavy air
pollution. The interval may be shorter than that
indicated in the Service Booklet. A damaged fil-
ter reduces the amount of air supplied to the ve-
hicle interior.
Ventilate the vehicle for a brief period dur-
ing warm weather, e.g. using the summer
opening feature (
컄
page 365). This helps
you to achieve the desired interior temper-
ature more quickly.
Observe the following notes to ensure that
the automatic air conditioning functions
correctly:
앫
Keep the air inlet between the bonnet
and windscreen free of deposits, e.g.
ice or snow, to guarantee the supply of
fresh air into the vehicle interior.
앫
Never cover the vents or air inlet and
outlet grilles in the vehicle interior.
i
Condensate may drip from the underside of
the vehicle when it is in cooling mode.

G
Risk of injury
When the automatic air conditioning is in op-
eration, very hot or very cold air can flow
from the vents. This could cause burns or
frostbite to bare skin in the immediate vicin-
ity of the vents. Keep bare skin away from
these air outlets. If necessary, use the air-
distribution control to direct the airflow
away to a different area of the vehicle interi-
or.
G
Risk of accident
Follow the settings recommended on the
following pages for heating or cooling. The
windows could otherwise mist up. This may
prevent you from observing the traffic condi-
tions, thereby causing an accident.
H
Environmental note
The cooling system uses the refrigerant
R134A. This refrigerant does not damage
the earth’s ozone layer.
