Preventive occupant safety (PRE-SAFE ® )
initiates preventive measures in certain
hazardous situations for your safety.
PRE-SAFE ® intervenes in:
앫
emergency braking situations, e.g. if
Brake Assist BAS (
컄
page 54) is acti-
vated or Brake Assist BAS Plus*
(
컄
page 54) intervenes powerfully
앫
critical driving situations, e.g. where
the vehicle understeers or oversteers
because it has exceeded physical limits
In these cases, PRE-SAFE ® initiates the fol-
lowing measures if you are driving faster
than 30 km/h:
앫
it tensions the front seat belts
앫
it adjusts the seats to a better position

page 259) if the front-passenger
seat or the electrically adjustable outer
seats in the rear compartment* are in
an unfavourable position
앫
it increases the air pressure in the air
chambers (side bolsters of the seat
cushion and backrest) of the multi-con-
tour* (

page 221) or dynamic driving
seats* (

page 224)

if the vehicle understeers or overs-
teers, the sliding/tilting sunroof*
(

page 359) and the side windows
(

page 284) also close automatically
to leave a specific gap
If the hazardous situation passes without
resulting in an accident, PRE-SAFE ® slack-
ens the belt pretensioning and reduces the
pressure in the air chambers of the multi-
contour seats or dynamic driving seats*. It
is possible to undo all the adjustments ini-
tiated by PRE-SAFE ® .
