4.3.3 Enabling LLDP Globally
When the switches are enabled with LLDP, the switches notify the neighbors of their status and
obtain the status of the neighbors by exchanging LLDP packets. The NMS can obtain the status
information about Layer 2 connection on the switch, and then analyze the network topology. Do
as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
4.3.4 (Optional) Disabling LLDP on an Interface
When LLDP is enabled globally on an switch, all the interfaces are enabled with LLDP by
default. When only certain interfaces need the LLDP function, for the interfaces that do not need
the LLDP function, you can run the
undo lldp enable command on these interfaces to disable
the LLDP function. Do as follows on SwitchA and SwitchB.
4.3.5 (optional) Configuring an LLDP Management Address
The LLDP management address is used by the NMS to identify devices and manage the network.
Do as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
4.3.6 (Optional) Setting the Interval for Sending LLDP Packets
After the interval is set on the device, each LLDP-enabled interface sends an LLDP packet to
neighbor stations at this interval. You can adjust the frequency of network topology discovery
by setting the interval for sending LLDP packets. Do as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
4.3.7 (Optional) Setting the Delay for Sending LLDP Packets
The delay for sending LLDP packets is the minimum delay for the interface module to send the
LLDP packets to the neighbor stations when the status of the device changes frequently. To
suppress the network topology flapping, you can extend the delay. In this way, the device will
not frequently send LLDP packets to neighbors. Do as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
4.3.8 (Optional) Setting the Time Multiplier of Device Information Held in Neighbor Stations
By using this function, you can set the validity period of device information stored on the
neighbor stations. The neighbor stations update the aging time of the device information from
the sender according to the specified validity period after receiving the packet. Do as follows
on Switch A and Switch B.
4.3.9 (Optional) Setting the Delay for Re-enabling LLDP on an Interface
By using this function, you can suppress the topology flapping of the neighbor stations caused
by the frequent status changes of LLDP. Do as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
4.3.10 (Optional) Setting the Delay for Sending the Traps of Neighbor Changes
This delay is the minimum interval for an LLDP-enabled interface to send a trap to notify the
NMS that the neighbor information changes. When the neighbor information changes frequently,
you can prolong the delay. In this way, the device will not frequently send traps to the NMS,
and thus the network topology flapping is suppressed. Do as follows on Switch A and Switch
B.
4.3.11 (Optional) Configuring the TLV in the LLDPUD
The TLVs that can be encapsulated by LLDP include basic TLVs, organizational-specific TLVs,
and Media Endpoint Discovery (MED) TLVs. Basic TLVs are essential for managing network
devices. The organizational-specific TLVs and LLDP-MED TLVs are defined by
standardization organizations for and other organizations, which are used to enhance the network
device management. You can determine whether to send the organizational-specific TLVs and
LLDP-MED TLVs according to the actual situation. Do as follows on Switch A and Switch B.
