Protocol Tabs

HP-UNEQ 

Higher-Order Path Unequipped Alarm. An all-zeros pattern is 
inserted into the C2 byte of the HPOH. The C2 byte is the HP 
Signal Label. (This type of error is used between Higher-
Order Path terminating equipment-PTE) 

When a PTE receives this alarm, it will generate an AIS to 
downstream NEs. 

LP-UNEQ 

Lower-Order Path Unequipped Alarm. An all-zeros pattern is 
inserted into the V5 byte of the LPOH. The V5 byte is the LP 
Signal Label.  

Only available when a LP mapping is selected. 

LP-RDI 

Lower-Order Path Remote Defect Indicator. This generates 
an LP-RDI condition using the V5 byte of the Lower-Order 
Path OH. 

This simulates a downstream NE at the LP layer, reporting a 
failure to an upstream NE. 

To do this, the system changes the pattern of the V5 byte in 
the LPOH. The NE receiving the LP-RDI alarm should detect 
a change to the V5 byte on the incoming signal. 

Only available when a LP mapping is selected. 

LP-RFI 

Lower-Order Path Remote Failure Indication. This generates 
an LP-RFI alarm downstream to initiate a LP protection 
switch. 

Only available when a LP mapping is selected. 

TU-AIS 

Tributary Unit Alarm Indication Signal. The transmission of an 
TU-AIS to a downstream NE forcing that NE to send a TU-
AIS alarm to the next downstream NE. The NE will also send 
an TU-RDI alarm to its upstream equipment. 

Only available when a LP mapping is selected. 

TU-LOP 

Tributary Unit Loss of Pointer. This simulates a loss of a valid 
TU Pointer. When the downstream NE receives a TU-LOP, it 
generates a TU-AIS alarm to its downstream equipment and 
a TU-RDI alarm to its upstream equipment.
