What Causes an RDI Alarm?
A
Remote Defect Indicator (RDI)
is an alarm sent to upstream network elements (NE).
Its purpose is to alert upstream NEs of a downstream failure. The RDI is generated by
the same NE that declares the initial AIS alarm to downstream NEs.
The MPA supports detection and transmission of Line RDI alarms
(RDI-L)
-- formerly
known as a Line Far-End Remote Failure (Line FERF) -- and STS Path RDI
(RDI-P)
alarms.
If the MPA receives an RDI-L or RDI-P alarm, it is reported by the MPA's LEDs and
logged to the Results screen.
The MPA can be used to simulate RDI alarms to verify if upstream NEs react
accordingly to an incoming RDI alarm.
