Checks and Adjustments
Transfix roller pressure spring adjustment
Each transfix roller’s spring is pre-calibrated to produce a specific pressure
when the spring is compressed to it calibrated height. The calibrated spring
stack height is written on the side of the spring stack. This adjustment should be
used anytime the pressure spring stacks or the transfix roller are removed.
1.
Turn off the printer. Remove the left and right panels as described in
the topic “Cabinet panels and covers” on page 8-4. Also remove the
front panel.

Remove the three screws securing I/O board 3 in place. Lift the board
out of the way and set in on top of the printer, but leave its wiring
harnesses connected to the board. (The wiring harness to the front
panel can be disconnected.) Ensure the board is insulated from any
accidental electrical contact with the printer.
3.
Connect a PC to the printer and start diagnostics as described in the
topic “PC-based diagnostics” on page 6-24. turn on the printer and
start the service diagnostics program on the PC.
Caution
In the following steps it is important that the drum rotate
continuously while the transfix roller is engaged to it. Otherwise
the transfix roller will create a “dent” in the drum that affects print
quality.

On the PC, scroll and activate service menu item Transfix Roller –
Adjust Transfix Roller Pressure
.

Set the dial caliper to the value (plus 0.001in) printed on the spring
stack and lock the dial caliper to this value. (Use Table 9-1, “Spring
stack Metric to English conversion chart,” on page 19 to convert
Metric to inches, if necessary.)
6.
Adjust the height of the left spring stack with a 4 mm hex wrench until
the locked dial caliper slips snugly over the spring stack.
7.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the right spring stack.
8.
Exit the service test. The test will unload the transfix roller into its
standby position.
9.
Reassemble the printer and make a test print.
