Checks and Adjustments
Cap/wipe/purge assembly adjustments
Setting the cap/wipe/purge unit parallel to the printhead
If you replace one or both of the belts or the cap/wipe/purge drive motor, you
must ensure that the belts are in alignment with each other. This ensures that the
cap/wipe/purge assembly is perfectly aligned to the faceplate of the printhead.
If the belts are not aligned, the printhead purging is ineffective due to poor
sealing between the printhead faceplate and the cap/wipe/purge assembly.
1.
Turn off the printer. Remove the left- and right-side panels and the
top panel as described in the topic “Cabinet panels and covers” on
page 8-4. Remove the ink loader support as described in the topic
“Ink loader support/cross member” on page 8-11.
2.
If not already tilted back, rotate the process drive to tilt the printhead
back.
3.
Ensure that the cap/wipe/purge assembly is properly installed. Also
ensure that the that both the left- and right-side drive belt tension
springs are hooked in place.
4.
Raise the cap/wipe/purge unit up to the printhead by rotating the
cap/wipe/purge drive shaft. (Disconnecting the wiring harness
leading to the cap/wipe/purge motor makes the shaft easier to turn.)
5.
Tilt the printhead forward to gently contact the cap/wipe/purge unit.
