Troubleshooting

Color is uneven
1.
This may be due to poor thermal regulation in the printer, resulting in
uneven heating of the printhead, which in turn results in uneven ink
drop jetting. Likewise uneven heating of the drum, left to right, can
cause uneven colors.
2.
Perform the procedure, “Adjustments” on page 9-6.
3.
Replace the printhead; this is explained in the topic, “Printhead” on
page 8-36.
Not printing
The printer processes a sheet of paper, but no image is printed on it.
1.
No drive voltages to the printhead. Check for a loose connector
leading to the printhead.
2.
Run PC-based diagnostics
3.
Replace the power control board.
4.
Replace the printhead.
Printing too light or too dark
1.
Perform the procedure, “Adjustments” on page 9-6.
Image is offset or cut off
1.
Check the application for the correct image sizing and orientation.
2.
Ensure that English or Metric is the selected paper-size.
3.
Test that the media width sensor is operating correctly as described in
the PC-based diagnostics topic “PC-based diagnostics” on page 6-24.
Wrinkling
1.
Try different media. Very light-weight media may not be compatible.
2.
Replace the drum/transfix assembly.
Oil streaks on top of print
1.
Clean the stripper fingers.
2.
Use the front panel Clean:Ink Smears menu item.
3.
Replace the maintenance tray.
