After completing reassembly, check
pin ion position to be sure that it is
betw een 0 .5 and 2.0mm.
To adju st, proceed as follows
:
a. Connect the starter to a b attery, as shown
in Figu re 620Y.
Close switch. This will sh ift pin io n into
cranking
position.

b . Push p inion back by hand and measure th e
amount o f the p in ion movement as shown
in Figu re 621Y.
If the amount do es not fall within l imit,
adju st it by adding or removing shims
which are located between switch and
front brack et.
Adding shims d ecreases the amount of the
movement.

5 . Non-load test
(1)
A f ter adjusting pin ion position, fro m a
test circu it with a vo ltmeter and an
ammet er, as shown in Figure 622Y.
NOTE
:
Use wires as thick a s po ssible and tighten
each terminal fully.
(2)
C lo se th e sw itch and co mpare th e
R.P.M. curren t and voltage readings
with the Service Sp ecifications.
(3)
I f any abnormality is noted , check it
according to th e Inspections.
