Relay Operatio n Testing
1.
Disconnect th e neg ativ e (
-
) b attery
cable from the b attery.
2.
Disconnect and remov e the relay to b e
tested from the tractor.
3.
Using an ohmmeter, connect test p robes
to terminals "C" and "D" on th e relay
observe th e ohmmeter read ing.
4.
Th ere should b e high resistance b etween
termin als "C" and "D", indicating no
con tinuity and that the relay is
fun ctioning prop erly when non-en ergized .
If there is continu ity, the relay is
defective and n eed s replaced .
5.
To test th e relay when en ergized , use
ju mper wires to co nnect a 12-vo lt power
supply to terminals "A" and "B" (brass
termin als) o n th e relay.
6.
Tou ch oh mmeter test prob es to the "C"
and "D" terminals on the relay and
observe th e ohmmeter. Little or no
resistan ce between th e terminals
indicates that there is co ntinu ity and that
th e relay is f unctioning p roperly. If there
is no continuity betw een th e terminals,
th e relay is d efectiv e and need s replaced.
7.
Install the relay onto th e tractor.
8.
Connect the neg ativ e (
-
) battery cable
to th e b attery.
