8. Bench Check
To check th e alternator on a test ben ch , p roceed as follows:
a.
M ake co nnection as shown in the Figu re 611Y, except leave the lo ad resisto r discon nected.
b. S low ly increase the alternato r speed and observe the vo ltage.
c. I f th e voltage is uncontrolled w ith sp eed and increases above 15.5V, check the alternato r.
d. I f v oltage is b elow 15.5V, connect the lo ad resistor as shown in the figure 611Y.
e. O p erate the alternator at 2500rp m and adjust the load resistor as requ ired to obtain
maximum output.
f. M easure the output current. Th e output must be w ithin th e li mits shown in the section on
"Serv ice Sp ecifications
If the outpu t is less th an specified v alue the alternator should be disassemb led and
ch ecked.

9. Precautio ns
a. R ev ersed b attery connections will damage the alternator and/or wiring.
b. Wh en conn ecting a booster battery, make certain to conn ect negativ e b attery terminals
together and positiv e b attery terminals togeth er.
c.
Wh en a fast charg er is used to charg e th e battery, the eq uip ment battery cables should be
disconnected .
d. Ground ing of the alternator output termin al will damage th e al ternator and/or circu it.
e. Do not connect a lo ad of over 1A to the terminal "L”.
f. If the alternato r is op erated w ith the terminal L and B short-circuited, if may damage the
diod e trio.
