ENGINE GLOW PLUGS

Description
The engine glow plugs, 1, are located on
the right side of the engine cylinder head,
near the fuel injectors.
The glow p lugs are u sed to preheat the air in
the p re-co mbustion ch amb er. This aids in th e
starting of the engin e w hen cold.
Removal
1. D isconnect th e negativ e (
－
) battery
cable fro m t he battery.
2. R e mo ve th e th ree (3) nuts, 1, and
washers securing the electrode b ar, 2, to
the glow plugs.
3. Remov e th e glow p lugs fro m the engin e
cy linder head.
Engine Glow Plug Testing
1. Cl ean carbon from the sheath end of th e
glow p lug.
NOTE:
Do no t test resistance using the glow plug
shea th .
2. U sing an ohmmeter, tou ch on e test prob e
to the glow p lug electrode. Touch th e
other test probe to the glow plug body.
3. O b serv e th e oh mmeter. A resistance
reading of 1.0 oh ms max imum is no rmal
for the ST tractor, glow plug . If th e
resistance is too high, the glow p lug is
defective and n eeds replaced.
Insta llatio n
1. Th read the glo w plugs into th e en gin e
cy linder head. Torque each glow p lug to
15-20 N

2. I n stall t he electrode bar and th e washers
onto th e glow p lugs. Secure with th e
three (3 ) nuts.
3. Connect the neg ativ e ( － ) battery cable
to th e b attery.
