Remove gear sh aft/overrunning clutch
ass emb ly (18) and lev er (19 ) as a unit
from front bracket (10 ).

To remove ov errunning clutch (18).
a.
R e move plastic cap (20). If the cap is
too badly distorted or cracked , it will be
necessary to u se a new one on
reassembly.
b.
Sl ide a piece o f pipe of suitable size
over shaft again st stop ring (21).
Th en tap the pipe with a hammer to
remove the stop ring and expo se snap
ring (22 ). Remove th e p ip e fro m the
shaft.

c. R e move the snap ring and th e s top ring
and separate the over runn ing clutch
(18) from the gear shaft (17).
If th e snap ring is d istorted, it will be
necessary to use a new one on
reassemb ly.
3. I nspections
(1) Arma ture
a. Insp ect the armature coil for sho rt-circuit
with a growler tester.
Replace armature if shorted.
b.
I n sp ect armature coil for ground w ith a
circu it tester.
Replace gro unded ar mat ure.

c. In spect co mmu tator for wear. I f below
th e limit , replace ar matu re.
d. Inspect co mmu tator fo r insulator dep th.
Correct if b elow the limit .
e. Check gear teeth for w ear or damage, and
replace ar mature as necessary.
