CRUISE CONTROL MAGNET
(HST Model only)
Description and Location
The cruise control magnet, 1, is located
under the left tractor in the dash board and
is attached to the hydrostatic transmission
(HST)
linkage. The cruise control magnet
is a simple electromagnet. When the cruise
control switch is activated, current is
supplied to the cruise control magnet and
the magnet locks the HST control linkage
in place. This maintains a constant
transmission speed, which translates to a
constant tractor ground speed, forward.
Removal
1.
D isconn ect the neg ativ e (-) battery cable
from th e b attery.
2.
Pu ll up instrument panel and remo ve th e
left dashbo ard .
3.
D isconn ect th e main wiring harn ess
connector, from the cruise control
magn et.
4.
R emo ve th e two bolts,2, which secures
the cruise control magnet mounting
brack et,3, to the steering column.
Remove the magnet from th e tractor.
Cruise Control Magnet Testing
1.
U sing an oh mmeter, connect test leads to
each terminal on the cruise control
magn et conn ector, 1.
2.
O bserve the ohmmeter. The ohmmeter
shou ld , ind icate a resistance of 11 - 12
ohms. If the resistan ce of the magnet is
not as sp ecified, the magnet is defective
and needs replaced.
3.
U se jumper wires to connect a 12-vo lt
power supp ly to the terminals on the
cruise con trol magnet connecto r, 1 .
4.
Th e cr uise control magnet, 2, should
beco me mag netic and att ract any ferrous
object. If the cru ise control magnet does
not attract any ferrous objects, th e
magn et is d efectiv e and needs rep laced.
Installation
Assembly of th e cruise control magnet
generally fo llows th e disassemb ly in rev erse.
