Note:
In order to ensure that the tape drive can eject smoothly and avoid damage, remove the bezel filler.
See Figure 99 “Remove the bezel filler” on page 181.
If you have replaced a server component or installed an optional device in the server, you need to reconnect
the power cords and all external cables, and turn on the server and peripheral devices.
Removing an adapter
Use this information to remove an adapter.
Read the safety information in “Safety” on page v and “Installation guidelines” on page 29.
If you are replacing a server component in the server, you need to turn off the server and peripheral devices,
and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
To remove an adapter, complete the following steps.
Step 1.
Carefully turn the server on its side so that it is lying flat, with the cover facing up.
Attention:
Do not allow the server to fall over.
Step 2.
Unlock and remove the left-side cover (see “Removing the left-side cover” on page 182).
Step 3.
Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 188).
Step 4.
Disconnect the cables from the adapter (see “Internal cable routing and connectors” on page 33).
Step 5.
Press down the adapter-retention brackets to the open position.

Step 6.
Pull the adapter out of the adapter connector; then, lift the adapter out of the server.
Note:
If you have installed the optional ServeRAID adapter memory module, remove it and keep it
in future use (see “Removing an optional ServeRAID adapter memory module” on page 223).
Step 7.
Install the PCI slot filler.
