Pulse Response Calibration with a Tunnel Diode Pulser
You can use the Calibrator to drive a tunnel diode pulser. This lets you see pulse edge
rise times as fast as 125 ps.
The Calibrator sources a maximum pulser drive signal of 100 V p-p at 100 kHz. The
recommended (and default) output setting is 80 V p-p at 100 kHz.
Do the subsequent procedure to use a tunnel diode pulser:
1.
Connect the Calibrator, tunnel diode pulser, and oscilloscope as shown in Figure 9-2.
2.
With the SC600 Option in EDGE mode, push the TDPULSE softkey to “on”.
3.
Push
.
4.
Rotate the control on the pulser box to the minimum setting necessary to trigger a
reading.

The Leveled Sine Wave Function
The Leveled Sine Wave (Levsine) function uses a leveled sine wave, whose amplitude
remains relatively constant over a range of frequencies, to examine the bandwidth of the
oscilloscope. When you examine your oscilloscope, you change the wave’s frequency
until the amplitude shown on the oscilloscope drops 30 %, which is the amplitude that
corresponds to the -3 dB point.
To access the Levsine menu, push the softkey below MODE until “levsine” shows.
