7. TROUBLESHOOTING IMAGE FAULTS/MALFUNCTIONS
42 The multifeeder fails to pick up paper.
43 The registration roller fails to rotate.
Checks
Is the drive from the pick-up motor
(M10) transmitted through gears?
Turn OFF the power switch, and
disconnect J2951 on the multifeeder
relay PCB. Set the meter to the
×
100
Ω
range, and measure the
resistance between J2951-7 and -8
on the harness side. Is it about
120
Ω
?
Connect J2951, and turn ON the
power switch. Set the meter to the
30VDC range, and measure the
voltage between J2207A-4 and -6
on the DC controller PCB. Does it
change from about 0 V to about 24
V after pick-up?
Action
Check the gears.
Check the wiring from
J2951 to CL9; if normal,
replace CL8.
Replace the clutch.
Replace the DC controller
PCB.
Action
Check the wiring; if
normal, replace CL6.
Replace the pick-up roller.
Check the lifter plate drive
system. As necessary,
adjust or replace it.
Check the wiring; if
normal, replace the
clutch.
Check the wiring; if
normal, replace SL5.
Replace the DC controller
PCB.

Checks
Select multifeeder pick-up, and
press the Start key. Does the
multifeeder pick-up roller rotate?
Is paper fed properly by the pick-up
roller?
Press the Start key. Does the lifter
plate move up?
Press the Start key. Does the roller
rotate?
Connect the + probe of the meter to
J2207A-3 on the DC controller PCB
and press the Start key. Does the
voltage change from about 24 V to
about 0 V?
