These variations make it difficult to translate a color from device to
device for display to the human eye. ICC Profiles, Color Rendering
Dictionaries (CRDs), and Color Management Systems (CMSs) are
used to define color ranges for devices and define the transformation
of a color from one device to another.
Human Variables
Color sensitivity differs between individuals and within a single
individual, depending on variables such as the portion of the retina
on which the image falls. To compensate for these differences, the
CIE defined a standard observer, which represents the average
human color vision. This standard is used when computing CIE color
values.
Color Management
XANTÉ’s color management advances help ensure precise,
consistent, and predictable colors from your printer every time you
print. This technology allows you to calibrate multiple printers to
produce the same accurate, repeatable colors.
XANTÉ’s multifaceted approach to digital desktop color
management uses ICC profiles, Color Rendering Dictionaries
(CRDs), and color transfer curves (precision printer linearization).
This section covers ICC Profiles, CRDs and XANTÉ’s Command
Center for use of default and custom transfer curves to help ensure
color fidelity across different devices and media. It describes
linearization, its importance, and how to accomplish it using
XANTÉ’s Linearizer in conjunction with a popular color
measurement device.
