Introduction
This appendix provides helpful information for working with some
popular Macintosh and PC applications. It also includes general page
design theory and hints.
Application Notes
You should be familiar with all standard procedures for your
working environment. This includes how to click, drag, copy, choose
commands, select options, use buttons and boxes, locate files, and
scroll windows.
Performing specific printing tasks may vary depending upon the
application, operating system, and printer driver used. See chapter 6
for current Adobe PostScript printer driver details. Check the
application documentation to determine where to find and how to
use these options.
Some older applications do not offer all of the printer’s features
or options
. For example, some older PageMaker versions do not
include a resolution option; you must select resolution through the
printer’s front panel. If options are available in several places,
application selections override the printer front panel setting. If there
is a question or if the job does not print as expected, select the
desired setting through the application and through the front panel.
Screen Frequency and Angle
We recommend you set the screen angle at 105˚ for cyan, 75˚ for
magenta, 90˚ for yellow, and 45˚ for black.
For 600 x 600 dpi, set the screen frequency range between 55 lpi and
106 lpi; 85 lpi produces optimal results. For 1200 x 1200 dpi, set the
screen frequency range between 85 lpi and 133 lpi; 120 lpi produces
optimal results. The printer’s default is 85 lpi.
