Resolution Firmware Upgrade
The 1200 dpi resolution upgrade is a SIMM based firmware upgrade.
It consists of a flash SIMM, a FIFO SIMM, and, possibly, a
SODIMM RAM upgrade. You can install this upgrade on site.
Installing SODIMMs or SIMMs
RAM SODIMMs are installed in the DRAM banks (see previous
section); flash and FIFO SIMM banks are labeled in figure 10.20.
The RAM SODIMMs and the flash and FIFO SIMMs are different
sizes and only fit in the correct banks.

1.
Remove the controller board panel following instructions
earlier in this chapter.
2.
Unpack the SIMM or SODIMM.
3.
Remove the existing SIMM or SODIMM if necessary using
the following procedure.
a.
Pull open the latches on each end of the SIMM or
SODIMM bank.
Note:
As a SIMM is released by the latches, it tilts out
of the bank (fig. 10.21). A SODIMM does not
tilt (fig. 10.22).
