The S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer supports variable video bandwidth settings ranging from 1 Hz to
5 MHz, which can be changed in steps of 1, 3, and 10 and digital keys, step keys and rotary knob .
Steps for setting video bandwidth are as follows:
a) Press
【
BW
】
→ [VBW Auto Man] ;
b) Use the numeric keys to enter the video bandwidth value, and select the corresponding unit in the
touch screen; users can also Press [↑] [↓] or use the rotary knob to change the video bandwidth.
If the video bandwidth is changed, the mode of the video bandwidth changes from automatic to manual.
In automatic mode, the video bandwidth will adaptively change based on the resolution bandwidth
setting. The ratio of resolution bandwidth to video bandwidth can be set by the following operations:
a) Press
【
BW
】
→ [RBW/VBW 1] ;
b) Enter the ratio using the numeric keys and Press [OK].
The range of RBW/VBW is set from 1 to 100, and default to 1. The ratio is displayed in the softkey menu
and used in the association mode of two bandwidths. If a new ratio is selected, the video bandwidth is
changed to meet the new ratio, while the resolution bandwidth remains unchanged. The impact of video
bandwidth on the measurement results is shown in Figure 5-2.

Averaging Function
The S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer can use the averaging function to achieve trace smoothing in
the spectrum analyzer mode. This functions enables the video to display traces smoothly without
reducing the video bandwidth. This function continuously averages the traces to achieve a smooth trace.
Steps for setting average are as follows:
a) Press
【
BW
】
→ [Avg Off On] , the default is off;
b) Enter the average number of times using the figure keys, and the default is 16 times. Press [OK] to
enter the average number of times.
c) Press [Avg Off On] to turn on the average and the status selected with underline is the current
status.
If the video average is off, “Average Off/16” is displayed on the left side of the screen. Otherwise,
the“Average 1/16”is displayed on the screen. The number from 1 to 16 displays the average number.
The average factor can be set from 1 to 999. If the value set by the user is less than 1, the averaging
factor is automatically set to 1, and if the value set by the user is greater than the maximum value, the
averaging factor is automatically set to the maximum value. If the step key is pressed, it will decrease to
the minimum value in step of 1. Otherwise, it will increase it to the maximum value.
