The noise marker value is calculated based on 5% of the entire sweep track point, and centered on the
frequency marker position. The position of the noise marker is not located at the peak point of the signal.
Since the peak position of the signal does not have enough track points to calculate, so when the
resolution bandwidth is narrow, the noise marker will also average the track point below the signal peak.
as shown in Figure 5-22.

At this point the amplitude reading of the noise marker is correct because the average of all points is
based on the same frequency and is not affected by the shape of the resolution bandwidth filter. The
noise marker is calculated based on the average of the interested frequency points. When performing
power measurements at discrete frequencies, it should first tune the microwave analyzer to the
interested frequency point and then measure at zero span.
V. Field Strength Measurement
This Section details how to use the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer for field strength measurements.
1
Definition of Field Strength
Field strength is an abbreviation for electric field strength, which characterizes the electric field strength
of an electric signal at a point in the space via the antenna. The value is expressed in microvolts per
meter (μv/m), and dBμv/m is also used for convenience. Field strength measurement constitutes as an
important part of radio monitoring and plays an important role in radio management. Thanks to the
accurate field strength measurements, it enables users to understand the true situation of the
electromagnetic environment and provide effective data for frequency division and distribution.
The S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer provides field strength measurement function, which can
quickly turn the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer into a field strength analyzer by pressing the button.
Therefore, it can quickly perform the field strength test with the help of the corresponding test antenna.
