measurements. In case of any change in the instrument measurement setting (such as the frequency
range and sweep points) or port extension cable added to the test port, recalibration is required. The full
2 ports standard adopted by the microwave analyzer can eliminate the reflection tracking error,
transmission tracking error, directional error, source matching error and load matching error, ensuring
measurement with high accuracy.
Whether to add extension cable or adapter to the test port of the microwave analyzer depends to the
DUT connector type and test requirement. The location for connecting with the calibration kit during
calibration shall be consistent with that for connecting with the DUT after calibration, so as to ensure
accurate measurements of the DUT. Calibration kit with the same connector with that of the DUT shall be
prepared. The location for connecting with the calibration kit and DUT is called the standard port
hereinafter.
In the VNA mode, the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer provides four calibration methods, namely, full
2 port calibration, frequency response calibration, response and isolation calibration, with
calibration process shown below:
a) Press [Calibrate] > [Cal Kit], select proper calibration kit model, and press [OK];
b) For response error correction of the reflectance measurement: Press [Calibrate]→[M Cal>]→[Freq
Resp.>]→[OPEN S11>], [SHORT S11]→[OPEN], and [SHORT]→[OK];
press [Calibrate]→
[Mechanical Cal>]→[Freq Resp.>]→[OPEN S22>], [SHORT S22>]→[OPEN] and
[SHORT]→[OK]
;
For response error correction of the transmission measurement: Press [Calibrate]→[M Cal>]→[Freq
Resp.>]→[THRU S12>], and [THRU S12>]→[THRU ]→[Done]
;
For response and isolation error correction of the transmission measurement: Press [Calibrate]→[M
Cal>]→[S12 Resp.&Iso], and [S21 Resp.&Iso]→[THRU]→[Iso]→[Done];
For reflection error correction of one port S11: Press [Calibrate]→[M Cal>]→[One Port S11]→[OPEN
Device]→[Short-circuit Device]→[LOAD]→[Done];
For reflection error correction of one port S22: Press [Calibrate]→[M Cal>]→[One Port S22]→[OPEN
Device]→[Short-circuit Device]→[LOAD]→[Done];
For reflection error correction of full 2 ports:
Press [Calibrate]→[M Cal>]→[Full 2 Ports]→[Reflection]→[P1 OPEN]→[P1 SHORT]→[P1 LOAD]→[P2
OPEN]→[P2 SHORT]→[P2 LOAD]→[Done];
Press [Tr]→[Auto Meas]→[Done]
;
Press [Iso]→[Auto Meas]→[Done]
;
NOTE:
When executing the calibration steps above, different calibration kit
and connection cable must be adopted and replaced as per the
prompt. For details, see contents on calibration for improving
measurement accuracy in the section “Network instrument
optimization measurement”.
c) After calibration, the prompt “Calibration Off/On” shows in the prompt zone. Connect with the DUT
for measurement.

Marker operation
The S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer is provided with up to eight markers for reading
measurement results. Press
【
Mkr
】
→[Sel Mkr]→[Mkr 1], [Mkr 2]…[Mkr 6] or [More Mkrs>]→[Mkr 7]
and [Mkr 8] to select current marker displayed. Each marker has two operating modes, namely, normal
and delta.
Press
【
Mkr
】
→[Max] or [Min] to let the microwave analyzer search the max/min value of the
measurement trace, and press
【
