Chapter VI Antenna Feed Test Mode (Optional)
Section 1 Basic Operations
This Section will briefly introduce the measurement function and measurement method of the Cable and
Antenna Test (CAT) mode of the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer, so that the first-time users can have
a general understanding of the test operation process and can perform basic measurements after
reading this section.
1
Select mode
After powering on, Press
【
Mode
】
→ [Antenna Test] , select the cable and cable and antenna
analyzer mode, Press [OK] to complete the mode setting.
2
Select measurement parameter
The cable and cable and antenna analyzer mode of the microwave analyzer can measure the return loss,
standing wave ratio, impedance, cable loss and other parameters of the device under test, and also
provides the fault point Distance-To-Fault (DTF) function to accurately locate the impedance mismatch
point. Press the

key to select different measurement parameters through the menu soft key.
a) [Return Loss], select the return loss parameter and display it in logarithmic format;
b) [Cable Loss], select the test parameter for cable loss;
c) [VSWR], select the test parameter as standing wave ratio;
d) [DTF Return Loss], select the test parameter fault location point for return loss test;
e) [DTF VSWR], select the test parameter fault location point for standing wave ratio test;
f)
[Impedance], select the test parameter as impedance, and the coordinate system is Smith chart;
g) [Smith], select the test parameter as the Smith chart;
h) [Phase], select the test parameter as the reflection phase;
3
Set frequency range
The frequency range refers to the measured frequency span. The frequency range in the cable and
cable and antenna analyzer mode of the S5105D/E/F microwave analyzer is related to the specific
model. Regardless of which measurement parameter is selected, the measurement frequency span
must be set before measurement and calibration. Frequency range can be set in the following two
methods:
Specify start/stop frequency
a) Press
【
Frep
】
→ [Start Freq] , input the starting frequency value with the numeric keys, select
frequency unit in the touch screen to complete the start frequency setting;
b) Press [Stop Freq], input the stop frequency value with the numeric keys, select frequency unit in the
touch screen to complete the stop frequency setting.
Specify center frequency and span
a) Press
【
Frep
】
→ [Center Freq] , input the center frequency value with the numeric keys, select
frequency unit in the touch screen to complete the center frequency setting;
b) Press [Span], input the frequency span value with the numeric keys, select frequency unit in the
touch screen to complete the span setting;
4
Calibration
After measurement setting, the microwave analyzer must be subject to calibration first before
measurement, so as to eliminate the system error, and ensure the validity and correctness of the
measurements. In case of any change in the instrument measurement setting (such as the frequency
range and sweep points) or port extension cable added to the test port, recalibration is required.
Whether to add extension cable or adapter to the test port of the microwave analyzer depends to the
DUT connector type and test requirement. The location for connecting with the calibration kit during
calibration shall be consistent with that for connecting with the DUT after calibration, so as to ensure
