Figure 5-37 Block Diagram of the Second Harmonic Distortion Test
1) Connect the test instrument as shown in Figure 5-37. The microwave analyzer provides a
10MHz frequency reference for the composite signal generator and selects a 1GHz low-pass
filter.
2) Set the 1464B/C frequency to 900MHz, the amplitude to -30dBm, and the RF output is on.
3) Reset the microwave analyzer, set the microwave analyzer to the spectrum analyzer mode,
and set other parameters as follows:
Center frequency .............................................................................................................. 900MHz
Span......................................................................................................................................10kHz
Reference Level................................................................................................................ -30 dBm
4) Press [Peak] to adjust the 1464B/C power level so that the spectrum analyzer reads -30dBm
0.1dB.
5) Press
【
Mkr
】
[ Delta Mode ] to set the center frequency to 1.8GHz.
6) Change the IF bandwidth to 10Hz or 30Hz.
7) Press [Peak] after the spectrum analyzer has completed a new sweep. Record the difference
marker reading in the corresponding test item of
S5105D/E/F Microwave Analyzer Record
Form
as the second harmonic distortion value (4GHz)
8) Connect the test instrument as shown in Figure 5-37, and use 6.8GHz low-pass filter.
9) Set the 1464B/C frequency to 6 GHz with an amplitude of -30 dBm.
10) Set the spectrum analyzer as follows (other items remain the default settings of the system):
Center frequency ...................................................................................................................6GHz
Span......................................................................................................................................10kHz
Amplitude ........................................................................................................................... 30dBm
Marker
..............................................................................................................close all markers
11) Press [Peak] on the spectrum analyzer. Adjust the 1464C power level so that the spectrum
analyzer reads -30dBm
0.1dB.
12) Press
【
Mkr
】
[ Difference Mode ] to set the center frequency to 12GHz.
13) Change the IF bandwidth to 10Hz or 30Hz.
14) Wait for the new sweep to complete, then Press [Peak]. The difference marker reading is
recorded in the corresponding test item of
S5105D/E/F Microwave Analyzer Record Form
as
the second harmonic distortion value of 4GHz to 9GHz.

Description: During frequency mixing, two input signals can generate the same IF signal with that of the
LO signal with the same frequency, with one signal frequency one IF lower than the LO and another
