Measure Small Signals by Using Video Average
The video average uses the digital processing method to average the current sweep track point and
average of the previous track in the same position. The video average function and the mean value
detection result are different.
Steps for measuring a small signal using the video averaging function are as follows:
a)
Reset the microwave analyzer:
Press
【
Reset
】
, [Default States] to reset the Analyzer to the default state.
b)
Set the center frequency, span and reference level of the microwave analyzer:
Press
【
Frep
】
, [Center Freq] , 1 [GHz];
Press [Span], 1 [MHz];
Press
【
Amplitude
】
, [Ref Level] , -40 [dBm]
Press [Peak] to place the marker on the peak of the large signal.
c)
Turn on the video averaging feature:
Press
【
BW
】
, [Avg Off On] , set the average number of times to 30, and the default average number of
times is 16.
Press the [Avg Off On] again to turn on the averaging function.
The comment window on the left side of the display screen area will display the average number of times.
Once the average number of times you set is reached, the microwave analyzer will continue to average
the data.
As the average program averages the trace, the small signal becomes more and more clear, as shown in
Figure 5-19.
