AAMI, IEC and VDE safety standards require patient leads or "applied parts" to be tested in related
Groups .
For the AAMI-ES1 standard, there are only two Groups defined, organized by
electrical characteristics
:
Group 1 is pre-assigned to patient leads which are electrically isolated from AC supply ground (Type "BF");
Group 2 is pre-assigned to patient leads which are not isolated from ground (Type "B").
For IEC and VDE safety standards, Groups are organized by medical function : ECG, defib paddles,
blood pressure transducer, etc. ES601-US provides connections for up to ten patient leads via the AP jacks
located on the front panel, where the AP jacks can be organized in up to
five functional Groups.
The assignment of patient leads to Groups is indicated on the PATIENT LEADS menu. Lead assignments
can be changed by pressing the
EDIT
button on the menu, which then displays the GROUPS editor:
The buttons appearing on the GROUPS editor are:
LEAD GROUP:
Selects the group of leads to be edited (1 or 2 for AAMI; 1, 2 3, 4 or 5 for IEC and
VDE).
