6.1.6 Physical Inspections
A Physical Inspection is a type of Checklist which is intended for the specific purpose of performing a
visual inspection procedure. ES601-US provides 18 Physical Inspections, each Inspection being targeted at a
general class of equipment, for example, equipment which can be powered from the AC supply, and which
is thus expected to have a power cord and internal fuses, each of which will require checking as part of a
PM.
Physical Inspections can be user-programmed and uploaded to the ES601-US, using the Inspections and
User Tester module of ES601pc-US software. Due to user-programmability, Physical Inspections can be
made as specific and detailed as required to suit the equipment being inspected, thus improving on the two
generic prompts for physical inspection which may appear at the start of any automated test, and which can
be globally enabled or disabled under the System Settings as explained in Section 3.2.
Like Checklists, Physical Inspections are comprised of Checkitems. Physical Inspections differ from
Checklists in that Inspections are shorter, providing a maximum of 24 Checkitems per Inspection. Unlike a
Checklist, a Physical Inspection cannot invoke another automated test such as a Safety AutoSequence.
However, Checklists can invoke one or more Physical Inspections along with other Checkitems and
automated tests.
An advantage of Physical Inspections is the simplified menu display used for accessing them. Physical
Inspections are easily browsed and selected since a specific button is provided for each Inspection, similar
to a Tester AutoSequence. This makes selecting a Physical Inspection somewhat easier and faster than
browsing the list of 500 Checklists to find the desired test. To select a Physical Inspection, enter the
AUTOMATED TESTS menu from the MAIN MENU, and press
PHYSICAL INSPECTIONS . The
factory default menu is shown below.
