Serial Port
The serial port (CON6) may be used with a number of different device types. Windsor
identifies the serial port as device number 19. See the communications sections for details of
the uses of the serial port. To view or modify the serial port options select 2 from the hardware
menu.

PAKNET
PAKNET is a UK based radio data network which links to the conventional X.25 packet
switched network. Physical access to the network is gained by means of a PAKNET radio
NTU (Network Terminating Unit). A similar service is available in other countries.
A PAKNET NTU may be connected to the Windsor serial port only through the RS232 buffer
board. The baud rate for PAKNET can be programmed as 1200 or 2400. PAKNET can be
used for all engineering communications and can signal alarms in ADEMCO (ASCII) format or
the Guardall format. For PAKNET LK8 and LK9 on the main PCB

should be in the inverting
position. PAKNET does not automatically detect the baud rate you program in Windsor.
You must therefore ensure that the PAKNET baud rate is set to the same baud rate as
Windsor before you connect PAKNET to Windsor. You can use the Windows Terminal
to set up the baud rate.
If you use PAKNET then you must pre-fix all customer “telephone” numbers with the data
network identification code.

The PC option should be used if you are connecting Windsor to an IBM compatible PC. Some
PCs can be connected directly to the Windsor serial port (if the RS232 port of the PC operates
at 0v and 5v levels) but most PCs will require the RS232 buffer board to be fitted. Windsor can
be programmed for a number of different baud rates up to 2400 (press HELP for a list). For a
direct PC connection the cable must have TX/RX and CTS/RTS crossed.
